Sintra is one of Europe’s most picturesque and romantic jewels. Situated in a mountainous Natural Park, this UNESCO world heritage region is home to some of the most amazing monuments in Portugal, including what was considered the most beautiful Castle in Europe (2014) and Garden (2013) by the European Best Destinations Organization. Sintra is also home to some amazing natural features and a dramatic and very picturesque coastline that you will not want to miss, including the westernmost point of continental Europe.
Cascais, on the other hand, is all about quality of life: Amazing waterfront restaurants, picturesque villas and a very scenic shoreline which is part of a Natural Park. It’s where going to the beach first became popular in Portugal and many European Royal families gathered to enjoy its luxurious and happy vibe. It’s a high-class vibe that started almost a century ago and is very much alive and kicking today.
This private tour will take you to the main Sintra and Cascais attractions and provide you with all of the historical information and local knowledge you’ll need to really get the most out of this place.

Enjoy a complimentary Hotel pick up from your Sintra local guide at 9:30am (our suggested start time which is flexible) before starting this memorable day.
Once we get to Sintra we’ll stop at the historic center to admire its labyrinth of streets, traditional architecture and the grandiosity of the National Palace. Here you’ll have the opportunity to taste some of Portugal´s best pastry delicacies: the travesseiro and the queijada. A visit to the National Palace is optional.
After coming back from the mountain top we’ll go to Quinta da Regaleira. This mystic palace and garden will have you dazzled with the romanticism of a bygone era. Again, you can opt to spend more time here or continue the tour.
A short drive through the forest from Quinta da Regaleira and we’ll discover another jewel of Sintra – the Monserrate Palace. This is a romantic palace of many different inspirations and home to what was considered the Best Garden in Europe in 2014. Once again, this visit is optional.
We’ll leave the aristocratic area of the historic center and head to the coast to enjoy some beautiful small towns and scenery before reaching the ocean. Here we’ll visit the picturesque, cliff hanging village of Azenhas do Mar and visit the beautiful beach of Praia Grande. This is where we usually suggest a nice waterfront lunch.
At this dramatic location you’ll admire the enormous cliffs that stand like a stage over the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. This is the westernmost point of continental Europe and the end of the world – or so people thought before the end of the 15th century.
From Cabo da Roca we’ll drive back to the historic center of Sintra to visit the Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle. These very different monuments are a definite must see in Sintra. Located on top of a mountain the views you’ll encounter are probably the best in the whole of the Lisbon area.
Before finishing the tour, we’ll drive you to the southern face of the mountain to enjoy the town of Cascais: initially a small fishing village, Cascais eventually became the fanciest area in the Lisbon area. This waterfront scenic drive will take you along an amazing coastline that includes some exquisite architecture and an interesting history.
Once this magical tour is over your guide will drive you back to you Hotel/AirBnb or another place of your choice.
