What to Expect

We’re passionate about Portugal so we came up with what we believe to be the very best way to experience the Lisbon area and southern regions of our country. On this tour we’ve put together the perfect combination of historic wonders, natural beauty and the experience of a unique and very genuine culture.

In the Lisbon area we’ll spend the days discovering the roots and origins of one of the oldest countries in the world, the aristocratic vibe of the romantic period (and its astonishing architecture) and the unique layout of a capital city which is built on hills, lies close to the ocean and was once hit by one of the world’s largest earthquakes.

We’ll then explore the Alentejo, Portugal’s hidden gem and the most genuine region in the country. Here time slows down, tradition and culture at their most genuine and the scenery is like nowhere else.

Once we reach the far south of Portugal we arrive at its most famous stretch of coastline – the Algarve. At first we’ll discover and enjoy its calm, crystal clear waters, the cave filled coastal cliffs and its beautiful beaches. Afterwards we’ll explore the wild western coast with its fisherman’s villages, big waves and imposing cliffs. All of this while enjoying world class sea food, culture and an amazing history of maritime navigation.

Itinerary

Day 1 Lisbon

This first day of the trip will be your introduction to Portugal and its capital city. The visit will include walks in the labyrinth like historic neighborhoods, visits to majestic squares in downtown Lisbon and major monuments such as the Monastery of Jerónimos and the Tower of Belem. We’ll also provide you with all the information you’ll need for a longer visit to the city after we return from our amazing 10-day trip.

Day 2 Sintra and Cascais

Sintra is one of Europe’s most picturesque and romantic jewels. Situated in a mountainous Natural Park, this UNESCO world heritage region is home to some of the most amazing monuments in Portugal, including what was considered the most beautiful Castle in Europe (2014) and Garden (2013) by the European Best Destinations Organization. Sintra is also home to amazing natural features and a dramatic and very picturesque coastline that you will not want to miss, including the westernmost point of continental Europe.

Cascais, on the other hand, is all about quality of life: Amazing waterfront restaurants, picturesque villas and a very scenic shoreline which is part of a Natural Park. It’s where going to the beach first became popular in Portugal and many European Royal families gathered to enjoy its luxurious and happy vibe. A high-class vibe that started decades ago and is very much alive today.

Day 3The Templars Castle, Nazaré and Óbidos

On our third day we’ll drive north of Lisbon to discover the old trading routes and origins of Portugal. It will pleasantly combine history, culture and beautiful scenery. You’ll discover majestic monuments like the Convent of Christ (the Templar’s headquarters) and the Monastery of Batalha. The Portuguese deep ocean culture is perfectly represented by the town of Nazaré – home to the biggest waves in the world (it holds the Guinness world record for the biggest wave ever surfed) and a strong fishing culture. We’ll also discover the unique medieval walled town of Óbidos, its historic streets and traditional architecture.

Day 4Évora – Night in Évora

On this fourth day of the tour we’ll spend the day enjoying the UNESCO world heritage city of Évora and its surroundings. We’ll visit the Bone Chapel, Évora Cathedral, the Roman temple of Diana and the megalithic structures built in the Neolithic period around the city.

We can also arrange local Wine and Olive Oil tastings as well as horse riding lessons and rides.

Day 5Évora, Monsaraz and Mértola - Night in Mértola

We’ll have a relaxed morning enjoying the historic center of Évora and its pleasant vibe before heading to Monsaraz. On our way there we’ll stop at the town of Reguengos de Monsaraz to taste the amazing gastronomy of this region – especially the black Iberian pig. After lunch we’ll visit the Medieval walled town of Monsaraz and then drive to Mértola through some beautiful countryside – including the biggest artificial lake in Europe.

Day 6Mértola and Lagos – Night in Lagos

We’ll spend the morning in the small picturesque town of Mértola enjoying its unique history, architecture and way of life. For lunch we’ll enjoy its special gastronomy. This remote area of Portugal lies in a beautiful National Park.

After lunch we’ll leave the Alentejo region and head for the Algarve – famous for its good weather and amazing coastline. We’ll arrive in Lagos in the afternoon, get settled in and enjoy the quaint historic area around your hotel.

Day 7Lagos – Night in Lagos

We’ll have a relaxed morning wandering around the historic center of Lagos and learn about its crucial role in the history of Portuguese navigators and discoveries.

Lagos is an important fishing port making it a unique place to enjoy delicious, fresh sea food.

In the afternoon we’ll go for an exciting boat ride to see one of the highlights of the Algarve: the rugged cliffs along the Lagos coastline which are full of giant caves.

Day 8Sagres and the Vicentine Coast – Night in Lagos

We’ll leave the calm and picturesque waters of the Algarvian coast to explore the wild and remote natural park on the west coast. Here the enormous cliffs, rough seas and amazing wild beaches make for some of the best possible views of the Portuguese coastline. We’ll stop at one of the fisherman’s coastal villages to further enjoy the seafood delicacies of this area and appreciate the local way of life.

In the afternoon we’ll visit the town of Sagres, made famous for being the residence of Henry the Navigator, the founder of the historical Portuguese global navigation and discoveries period. Here, in the southwestern most point of continental Europe you can enjoy Portugal’s finest ocean sunsets.

Day 9Alentejo coastline and Azeitão

We’ll have a relaxed morning before heading north to the coastal town of Vila Nova de Milfontes. Here we’ll have a very pleasant lunch overlooking the town before continuing northwards towards the small and beautiful town of Azeitão where you can relax while tasting its famous pastry, cheese and excellent wines.

Day 10Arrábida e Sesimbra

On this final day of the tour we’ll spend the morning exploring the wonderful Arrábida natural park. This will include an amazing scenic drive over hills to gorgeous beaches, and then on to the town of Sesimbra – a pretty fishing village with a wealth of tradition. It’s also a lovely place to relax and enjoy a waterfront lunch. In the afternoon we’ll take you back to Lisbon and drop you off at the place of your choice.
