First Nature Interpretation Center opens in Sintra

A new Nature Interpretation Center was born, in Parque de Monserrate, for families and schools.

“Through digital tools and teaching materials, it will be possible to go back millions of years, embarking on a journey that goes through the most remarkable periods of the region’s history”, said in a press release the company Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua.

Opened in October 2019, the Nature Interpretation Center is the first in the region and one of the places to visit in Sintra. Their purpose it to promote the contact with nature, environmental awareness and knowledge about the fauna and flora present in the unique ecosystem that characterizes this region.

The white, large-windowed building, built in 1920 as a painting studio for Sir Francis Cook, great-grandson of the first viscount of Monserrate – once served as a facility for exotic animals!

The interpretation center is divided in four thematic areas: Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, Water, Earth and Air.

Monserrate Nature Interpretation Center is opened from Monday to Sunday. To visit it is mandatory to book it in advanced.
